The 64-acre
Rio Grande Zoo which was founded in 1927, offers
visitors close encounters with more than 250 species
of exotic and native animals. Popular species
include seals and sea lions, chimpanzees, gorillas,
orangutans, elephants, polar bears, giraffes,
hippos, camels, tamarins, koalas, Mexican wolves,
mountain lions, monkeys, jaguars, zebras and rhinoceros.
State-of-the-art exhibit design and eye-pleasing
landscaping enhance zoo animal husbandry by creating
naturalistic habitats with trees, grasses, water
features and rockwork.
A walk through the zoo is approximately 2.25
miles, introducing you to a variety of animals
and species native to Asia, Africa, Indonesia,
Australia, and the Americas. With everything
from rare and exotic animals to comical and
common species, the zoo offers award-winning
natural habitat displays of white tigers, polar
bears, big cats, great apes and just about everything
else that came off Noah's Ark. Feeding times
for the Sea Lion and Seals are 10:30am and 3:30pm
daily.
Featuring naturalistic habitats, a freshwater
pond, a stunning band shell, snack bars, a restaurant
and gift shops, the Rio Grande Zoo will provide
you with days of amazement, entertainment and
sheer fun.
